Lady Lancers get second win
Eastern Wyoming College’s Women’s Golf Team won their second tournament, while the men finished second at the Northeastern Junior College Invite held Sept. 19-20 in Sterling, Colorado.
“Overall, it was another good week for both the men and women. I’m very pleased with the girls’ effort again this week, earning their second win in a row,” EWC Head Golf Coach Zach Smith said. “The guys played pretty well too, especially the second team.”
Lady Lancers Jessica Applegarth and Elliann Irick finished in a tie for fifth with a +34. Fellow Lancer Georgie Lou Paterakis finished in eighth place with a +36, while EWC’s Bailey Watson and Shayla Clayton finished in a tie for 10th place shooting a +44. Lancers Quinlann Yeager and Halle Allen also competed in the tournament.
On the men’s side the Lancers finished in second place with a +11, one stroke behind Otero College.
Lancers Josh Lane, Freddie Dancox, and Tytan Birchall tied for third with a -1. Teammate Taiki Sugawara finished the tournament in a tie for eighth place with a +2. EWC’s Mathis Fortin and Jax Oviatt tied for 14th with a +5. Lancers Braylon Bingham, Jamie Lambert, Coltin Powell, Jordan Hunt, and Joshua Chapman also competed in the NJC Invite.
“I think the depth this year on the guy’s team should provide for some good competition within the team,” Smith said. “Qualifying has been tight which I hope leads to the guys working harder and harder on their game.”
