Policy Title: Faculty Resignations
Policy Number: 3.26
_____________________________________________________________________________________
Purpose: Faculty are hired with a contract which creates a legally enforceable promise on the part of the employee for the term of the contract, unless the faculty member can prove that he or she has good cause to end employment or the College agrees to release the faculty member from the contract. The College’s agreement to let a faculty member resign when it is not required is called a “release” because the College is releasing the instructor from his or her contractual obligations. If a faculty member leaves employment without a release from the Board at a time when simple resignation is not possible, the College cannot force the educator to continue working for the College.
Resignations which occur after the above date, 60 days prior to the beginning of the first day of the upcoming semester are generally not accepted, unless the faculty member has worked with their supervisor and asked for a contract release from the Board. When resignations occur, rehire status to “Not Eligible for Rehire” may be placed in the faculty member’s file.
