Eastern Wyoming College offers a few programs and courses that lead to professional licensure or certification. The information on this page is provided for your consumer protection in accordance with Title IV of the Higher Education Act.

Programs leading to professional licensure or certification include:

  • Barbering
  • Cosmetology
  • Nursing (ADN)
  • Veterinary Technician (VTTK.AAS)

The US Office of Postsecondary Education provides regulations that govern what colleges must do in order to provide many types of financial aid. Title 34 CFR 600.9(c)(2) of those regulations specifies that EWC must determine a student’s location (state) at time of enrollment. Since these programs are only offered on an EWC campus within Wyoming, student location will be Wyoming. Based on that location, it is assumed that applicants for and students enrolled in these programs will seek related employment within Wyoming.

Although EWC programs meet or prepare students to meet the requirements for individuals wishing to practice in Wyoming, other states may require additional education, testing, or certifications that EWC cannot provide.

Applicants or current students may attest in writing, prior to enrollment in courses, that they wish to seek related employment in a different state. At that time, EWC is required to determine whether the EWC curriculum meets the requirements for licensure in that state or territory and provide written notification to the applicant whether or not the curriculum meets state requirements or that no determination can be made. If EWC cannot determine or it determines that the curriculum does not meet the requirements for licensure in that state or territory, the applicant may not be enrolled in the program.

EWC has not yet determined the status of its program or course requirements toward meeting eligibility for licensure in any state except Wyoming. As determinations are made regarding other states, the status of those states will be listed in the notes for each program below.

Barbering and Cosmetology (BARB/CSMO) Notes
Upon completion of EWC Cosmetology/Barbering programs, the college will certify the number of clock hours you have earned that can be presented to the Wyoming Board of Cosmetology as eligibility to take the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) theory and practical examinations. Upon successful completion of the examinations and payment of application fees, the State of Wyoming will grant licensure. The NIC exams are recognized by many other U.S. states and Guam. Licensure will likely be accepted by all other states based on passing the NIC exam, proof of clock hours, and payment of any state licensing fees.
Nursing (ADN) Notes
Upon completion of the EWC ADN program, the college will certify the number of clock hours you have earned and a transcript of all classes taken to satisfy the program requirements. These will be presented to the Wyoming State Board of Nursing as eligibility to take the NCLEX from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Upon successful completion of the examination and payment of application fees, the Wyoming State Board of Nursing will grant licensure. Once granted, this multistate license is transferrable between member states of the Nurse Licensure Compact according to their regulations.
Veterinary Technician (VTTK.AAS) Notes
Although the State of Wyoming doesn’t currently license veterinary technicians or aides, graduates of the EWC Veterinary Technolgy program are well-prepared for and encouraged to take the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) as part of a voluntary credentialing process. Passing the VTNE is one step that is required for licensure in many other states. The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) provides information related to state regulatory boards.
